About
About Gregarious
Built by a teacher who spent 16 years watching EdTech fail - and decided to build the one designed to earn trust.
The Problem
Teachers spend their days on the mechanical parts of education — hitting standards checklists, aligning to Common Core, grading the same foundational skills over and over. Meanwhile, the work they became teachers to do — creative projects, real discussions, building good humans — gets squeezed out.
Two Halves of Education
The app assesses foundational knowledge — objectively, adaptively, without bias or burnout. The teacher assesses human skills — collaboration, creativity, communication, citizenship, critical thinking. Together, they produce the fullest picture of a student that's ever been possible in a school.
Who It's For
Gregarious is designed for grades 5-12. We believe younger children learn best through books, conversation, movement, and hands-on instruction — not screens. Large international studies (OECD PISA, TIMSS, PIRLS) consistently show that students who spend more time on screens in early grades perform worse in reading, math, and science. Our platform picks up where that foundation ends.
By 5th grade, students have the foundational literacy and numeracy to benefit from adaptive mastery. They have the social development to earn creative time through demonstrated effort. They can use digital tools as accelerators instead of replacements for real instruction.
The Bifurcated Model
Mastery is the toll. Creation is the reward.
Students begin every session with an adaptive mastery sprint: standards-aligned questions that adjust in real time to their skill level. When they demonstrate growth, The Studio unlocks — a creative workspace where they build games, write stories, compose music, and code projects.
The sprint is not busywork. It uses Elo-rated difficulty targeting each student's zone of proximal development. The Studio is not a reward for compliance — it is where students apply what they know to things they care about. One half measures knowledge. The other measures what a student can do with it.
For Teachers
Teachers who contribute content — questions, passages, rubrics, lesson plans — earn royalties based on how often their material is used and how effective it proves. The best question writers and curriculum designers get paid for their expertise.
Gregarious can handle the mechanical half of education: standards alignment, adaptive assessment, progress tracking. This frees teachers to do the work they became teachers to do — mentoring, coaching creativity, building good humans.
Built by a Teacher
Built by Brian Adams — 16 years in the classroom, English Department Chair, National Board Certified Teacher. Currently completing doctoral research at Notre Dame of Maryland University on EdTech Fatigue: why teachers rationally resist new technology after years of failed implementations.
Gregarious is both a product and a dissertation research instrument. Every design decision is informed by what the research says works — and what 16 years of watching EdTech fail says does not.
